Lower Back Nerve Pain

Many people experience a herniated disc in the lower back. It common from mothers that give birth to patients that do manual labor. In all of the cases where there are true herniated disc symptoms, treatment and prevention can vary greatly. If you see a PT or Chiropractor, conservative care will be prescribed. If you see a pain management Doctor, Injections will be prescribed. If you see an Orthopedic surgeon, Neuosurgeon or other surgeon, surgery will be recommend in many cases.

I have always recommended consulting your PCP and Chiropractor for your evaluation. These providers can help you or route you in the direction you will need. Your PCP will usually give you Medrol Dose pak, NSAID's (Naproxyn, Ibuprofen) and a Muscle relaxant (Flexeril/cyclobenzaprine). It is usually best to start the medication and consult your Chiropractor very soon after for treatment options.
